Accepting Imperfections

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.

The theme for the 2024-2025 program year is Accepting Imperfection...

 Program Details

Young artists get involved in Reflections through their local PTA or PTSA. A student may submit an entry in any of six arts areas. The six artistic categories are:

o Literature -- works of fiction and nonfiction in: poetry, prose, drama, short stories, essay, screen play, play script, narrative, and lyrics.
o Music Composition -- original musical composition, with or without words. Student may also be the performer, or one of the performers.
o Photography -- color or black/white single print (no collages) image in: photogram, negative sandwich, and multiple exposure.
o Visual Arts -- drawing, painting in various mediums, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling, architectural drawing, ceramics, fashion drawing or clothing, fiber work, mixed media, and sculpture.
o Film/Video -- original works, with or without sound, in: animation, narrative, documentary, experimental, or media.
o Choreography/Dance -- originally choreographed solo and ensemble works all-dance styles. Student may also be the performer, or one of the performers.

Entries are judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme.

Special Artists: The Special Artist Division is a non-graded division limited to students whose physical, cognitive or mental health challenges meet the guidelines set forth in the American Disabilities Act. Qualifying students entering this division create their own artwork but may receive non-artistic accommodation and assistance from an adult. At the national level, one Special Artist from across all arts categories will be selected to receive an Outstanding Interpretation Award. Up to five additional Special Artists may be selected to receive national Awards of Excellence.

12 best entries representative of all art categories from the school will move forward to the district level. Please note:Beaver Lake Middle School will be collecting artwork through physical submission as well as via a google form. However, at the State and National levels, artwork submission and judging will be conducted online.

Submission Deadline:

November 1st, 2024

Submission of entries:

1. Fill out the student entry form (ONLY last 2 pages of the student entry packet) and scan it as a pdf document.
2. Upload your scanned entry form along with artwork photo/ file of your entry via this google form:

3. Please submit your physical artwork along with the entry form in the Reflections box in the school office.

 

Tips for successful submission:

Each entry form must be complete and signed by the student and a parent.
Signed student entry form must be attached outside of any wrapping on the visual arts or photography entries.
Please submit a good quality image of the visual arts and photography entries in the google form.
